The Singapore leg of Mandopop singer Yoga Lin's [Fugue] World Tour 2012 on Nov 24 was a delightful success, drawing a 5,000 strong crowd consisting of youths as well as young to middle-aged adults.
Yoga had great rapport with the crowd throughout the concert held at The Star Performing Arts Centre. This concert venue officially opened this month, and Yoga was the first Chinese singer to perform here.
Opening with [ 我總是一個人在練習一個人], Yoga infused and maintained much boyish charm and great humour in the three-hour performance.
Yoga set out 'to make friends with Singapore' at the start of the concert, and he certainly did. Many fans left the concert gushing about how cute his personality and comments were.
Of course, the winner of Taiwan’s highly-regarded TV reality programme “One Million Star” in 2007 has always been known for his down-to-earth demeanor and great live-singing with the band. Songs like [再別康橋] were belt out with a fresh rendition.
Spirits were high when Yoga went down the stage to the middle of the hall a couple of times. Even though he couldn't make it up to the second and third level tiers of the big event venue, he made sure they sang along and had fun at various interjections along with his performances for songs, for instance [紀念品]. The singer also made sure he interacted with audience from both sides of the hall.
Other than teasing the audience for being 'well-behaved to his words' as well as urging them to enjoy themselves so as to 'reap the best out of the ticket cost', the 25-year-old's coy humour was well-received at other times.
The best memory of the night? To create 'something special for Singapore fans', Yoga Lin specially dressed himself up as scholar 宁彩臣 from a Chinese folk tales, "Ning Caichen" and took a photo at the iconic tourist spot in Singapore -- the Merlion near One Fullterton. That photo that was first screened on the projector during the song [耳朵] left many tickled; laughter and smiles were all through the 9-storey-high Arts Centre.
During his encore, Yoga Lin came out dressed live as the scholar himself. Responding to the audience's glee and surprise, the star himself even burst out in laughter upon seeing his reflected projection on the screen, sharing in self-deprecating fashion that he himself was tickled by the sight.作者: Mandy 時間: 2012-11-26 11:43
The first time I met Yoga Lin, I thought he was one serious dude. Maybe it was nerves. I can be a rather intimidating interviewer, especially when I talk about moral particularism and why some people find Claire Danes hot.
Yoga’s answers were monosyllabic, and he didn’t even laugh at any of my jokes. True, they were terrible jokes to begin with. (“What did the Dalai Lama order at the pizza joint?” “Make me one with everything”.)
Anyhoot, I thought he too serious to last long in the pop biz, which really demands that you have a sense of humour so that you can laugh at yourself (and those clothes that you have to wear). But boy, was I wrong!
See?
These days, the dude knows how to loosen up and have a good time. Just look at these photos from his gig on yesterday and see for yourself.
